I completely agree... I have to fight with some clients convincing them that it's better to build it yourself rather than install bloatware with security issues and canned tech support...

I think the days of selling software for installation into websites is nearing an end... I really think were reaching a point where services are the only real option available to people who are serious about their business...

Unless the software comes with a constant stream of security updates... or it's closed source... or your a programmer yourself who has a few weeks/months of time to spend on your software each year... really... what other option is available?

Personally... I'm sick of people trying to dump their crap software onto me... if you have software which is good... why not host it yourself eh? why not provide your clients with the support they want rather than dump your bloatware back onto some poor developer who really just doesn't have the time to fix the last two years of your coding mistakes... That's the way I see it...

Hey... I'd rather spend the next five years of my life making applications work with other application via xml or some other method rather than become a software manager for people who are making money off me... I don't work for them... so why should I develop, maintain, fix, upgrade, hack, patch, for their software...

IT is the very same reason why A component based programming though easy is no match for hard core programming from scratch in efficiency and performance.

That is also the reason why I love linux over windows or mac. Transparency is the magic word, which most scripts out there dont have.
