Definitely. There are many directories with a high PR, that have a wide variety of categories with many sites and their description, inside. These descriptions of similar sites give you the relevant keywords you need to give your link a high "importance".

During our research for proper directories to submit to, we have listed and classified top 55 directories that are FREE, doesn't put rel="nofollow" to your link, and are Google friendly.

What I have done is publish pressreleases thru the free online pressrelease sites. There are a about 30 of them.

This way your news is posted on several sites as they archive it too.
If you use your keywords right it will help in your ranking at Google.

It depends offcourse in what business you are in.
It helped me in some cases, but not in all of them.

There are heaps of ways. I would stick to SEO... the best way to do this. I have also found that listing the site in a good business directory is great too.

I'd be happy to talk to you about my own successes if you like.

Search Engine Optimization is an optimal way to increase your traffic. however, if you dont want to pay for seo services, you can do it your own (link building).. participate in forums like this, directory submissions, social networking, and other relative techniques. There are millions of resources that you could read on online.

The most effective and efficient way I ever found is SEO.

Search Engine Optimization results are tough to obtain but they are lasting and efficient.
