Default 1 of the 3 Pieces to the Google SEO Puzzle, Inbound links.

What is the best way to do an inbound link campaign? Inbound links are the number one way to get a good ranking within Google and can be compared to a vote for your site. With inbound linking there are 3 attributes that you should implement to maximize the effectiveness when directing a link back to your site. For sake of explanation we are going to assign each of those 3 attributes 1 point each.

1. Does the text link contain the keyword that relates to the page it's linking to? For example, if the link is going to point back to a page on your site about tennis shoes, the link text should read something like "New Brand of Tennis Shoes", basically the words "tennis shoes" should be in the title of the text link. In essence what happens is the search engine reads the title of the text link, then follows the link back to your site and reads the title tag on the page it's linked to, and says "is this page what the title of the text link said it was"? If it is, then you get a point, so you're at 1 out of 3.

2. Does the link reside on a web page that is relevant to your site? For example, if your site had sports shoes for sale, putting a link on a site that has a lot of information about sports, or a blog that dealt with sports would be a good thing. Where as, if you were to put a link on a site or blog that dealt with something not relevant, like pottery, the relevancy would not be powerful. This is one of the many dangers of using a "link farm" to put links out there for your small business, they just scatter the links around and rarely hit a site that is relevant to your site and actually hurt your link popularity. So keep the links that point to your site located on other pages that are relevant to your site. If you do that, you get another point so you're at 2 out of 3.

3. Finally does the site that the link resides on have good page rank in itself? Granted this is not something that you can completely control, yet it still can be monitored. You will have to put less links out there if your links reside on highly trafficked and highly ranked sites, and more links if you use sites that are less trafficked. Keep in mind both #1 and #2 above need to take place for #3 to matter. If you get the links pointing to your site located on higher trafficked and respected sites you can give yourself 1 point for a total of 3 out of 3.

Note: Actually I have 2 notes. The first being once you get an inbound link it only helps you as long as the link is active on the other site, so they are more of a short term boost unless managed well. Second without good unique content and good metadata this is not as effective. A little demonstration on that point; If you go to Google and type in the words "click here" the top result is the Adobe Acrobat download page. This page has no mention of the words "click here" in its content or anything in the meta tags. So this demonstration has two points; one being links to your site are important, but without any unique content or meta tag optimization you would need millions of links to your page to get it ranked as adobe has done, which is virtually impossible for a small business or a large one at that.

What do you think about paying for mass link exchanges? Are they effective?

Well article seems to be well written, but content does not seem to be teaching anything unique.

Hi,

There are two aspects to website publicity. Broadly:
1: Paid Marketing
2: Free Marketing

Paid marketing involves the activities of posting your ads on targeted websites and paying them a handsome amount in return.

Free publicity includes promoting your website for free. That is one of the most famous FAQ.

Its simple. Utilize your resources before spending on acquisition of new users.

Step 1: Start your blog, start posting on forums, start writing on forums that you enjoy the most, help people. In return add your signature at the bottom of every post. This will draw more traffic to your website.

Step 2: Send a weekly mailer to all you contacts (personal) keeping them informed about any updates on the website. The open count of mailers coming from a known indivisual is around 80%. So lets say you have 100 personal contacts. On an average you will have around 80 visitors coming to your website everyday. That makes it around 400 visitors per month. How much did it cost? Nothing.

Step 3: Don't be shy to ask for favors. In all your emails add a line saying "Please help us reach people. Refer this site to your friends". Not necessarily it will work 100%, but even if it gets 2% click thru, it will trigger off a viral.

Step 4: Add a link to your website in your email signature. This will help you get more traffic.

Step 5: Sign up for link exchange programs. It may not be very helpful, but it certainly will improve your listing

Search engines can tell if you appear on hundreds of sites at once.

I would do it manually or pay someone to do it manually.
