With any business, you will have a number of tax obligations to comply with when starting up a business. You may need to register for a Tax Id Number. For instance, I purchased a tax id number for my real estate investment business.
If you have a home-based business, there are specific tax issues you should know about, especially what expenses you can claim. You also need to Keep financial tabs on your home-based busienss and try to maximize your write-offs; you should organize your records in two ways: 1. First, document throughly. Don't lose track of a penny. Get receipts of everything every day and stuff them in an envelope, or at least jot your expense and date on a piece of not paper. 2. Second, organize a record of disbursements. An off-the-shelf accounting software package works well. Some home-based business owners have bookkeepers for this and other mundane financial chores that they can't or don't want to handle. |
