I am new on this site thanks to good friend Upperz who introduced me to this interesting site. i am looking for information on mass production for my ethnic fashion designs. I have been told China is where its all happening now someone just warned me on the restrictions. Does anyone know the restriction that may affect me if I just require my designs produced in China and imported into the UK.

i am also new to this site. i am in China and several years ago i worked in a garment exporting company. As far as i know, there is not much restriction for garment mass production in China. u can just find a OEM factory to produce u design and import to UK. Quota maybe a problem, but u can have your factory work out this.

Thank you Jay6280, I think you are right, the UK does not seem to have any restrictions on importing clothes. However since you have worked for a manufacturer in China, which would be the best city to visit and get a head start on my fashion designs, seeing that most of them are obviously catering for bigger companies, with minimun production of something like 5000 pieces per design and I am not that big. I need advise on who may be able to support an entrepreneur like myself. Someone advised Guangton Province, what do you think?

Amymou, thanks for the link, however I found it confusing they seem to have too many different categories in fashion, even when I type in dresses, it brings up other equipment, maybe its just me not searching properly, will keep trying. Anyway, thank you.

Charmi Girl, U are right! Guangdong Province will be a good place for u to start. It's Southern China's industrial certer and quite a lot of garment factories here. Actually i am now living in Shenzhen, a city in Guangton and half an hour away from Hongkong. Acoording to you current situation, u can contact a relatively small fty so that u may be in a better position when negotiating price and whatever. And if u have difficulty in finding this suppliers, let me know what kind of dresses u design, i maybe able to help u find some fty here.

Well your best bet, can be contacting some one who alerady export garment from china to U.K.

That kind of person should have maximum knowledge.

Thank you guys, I sent a generic email detailing what I am looking for to 20 Chinese manufacturers and one from India guess what only 3 from China responded and they told me their minimum is 5000pce per design and the one from India wants to take me on. Now I'm not sure if he will be better than China. Help me out here guys who has done business in India. (Just a reminder I would like to have my ethnic design dresses most of them OEM's manufactured). Any ideas anyone.
