I started my business selling Jewels on Ebay about a year and half ago.
Ebay is good but it is not a reliable source of income as there are months where I don't make much money and there are so many competitors. So I thought about doing something else on the side. I started doing meetings at people's place. The first one I did was more than a year ago at my friend's sister's house. She had invited her friends and family members, and I displayed my Jewels and managed to sell some of them. In that meeting, I tried to ask the invitees if they would also be interested to do a similiar kind of meeting at their place. The response was not very positive. Some simply hesitated whereas some said they were busy until so and so date and were not very sure. Some said yes and agreed to contact me to give me the date and time, but never did. I do not feel like contacting them to ask as it may make me sound very "pushy" and instead repel them. I can understand them as inviting a group of 8-10 people at your place is not always practical and requires some cleaning afterwards. But at the sametime, if I want to continue selling my Jewels on such meetings, I need people willing to organise them at their place. How can I make people interested in such event? I need to broaden my customer base so I need more and more people? Anyone who does the same kind of job or has some knowledge or experience, may be could give me some useful tips. |

I don't know if you have tried Google's AdWords or not? But it can bring some organic traffic.

Have you tried contacting business places and organising a lunchime meeting/presentation for interested staff?
Even the men may be interested if your introduction flyer was all about giving something special to someone!! You could even offer some sort of nibbles. Have you thought of inviting people to have a presentation at your home intstead of theirs? Have you thought of cross promotion? Hope I have given you some inspiration/imagination. ![]() |

In my opinion, you should dress yourself as a model to wear your jewel and appear the beauty of your jewel to attend some community activities and attract plenty of people just as friends, not deliberately to find client. Then gradually your friends could be your clients . Be more patient

My girlfriend sells Premiere Jewelry and I hosted a jewelry show for her at my house. It did require some prep time from me, cleaning and contacting my friends. However, the work that I did in advance of the show (maybe 2 hours worth) was so small compared to the amount of free jewelry that I received for being a hostess (about $200 retail). Are you giving jewelry away to your hostess and do potential hosts know about the "thank you" jewelry? I would happily host another show for her knowing the reward I would receive afterward.

I know getting a website can be scary, but it is the best way to attract business. Find people and businesses you can trust to do the job right.
My tips: 1. Find a web designer you can trust. Most people run to the "create your own site" places to save money. In the end, you just realize that there are programming things you have no control over and your site does not look professional. Small companies like DylanDesignLab work with you on the phone and via email to get exactly what you are looking for. They will create your site either from scratch or from a template (cheaper but still professional and edited by them). 2. Do your research. You want cheap web hosting, but not something so cheap that you will never get customer service or end up with your server down. The HostRail site explains the products the best and they are super fast at getting back to you if you call or email. 3. Expect to pay for quality. In the making of your site and the purchasing of your hosting options, you have to expect to pay for it. Your website may cost between $200-600 to have a web designer make it for you. Your hosting will cost around $20/month and your domain name about $8/year for a dot com name. If you are selling online, you need a cart system ($40/m) and an SSL certificate ($30/year). However, considering how much you spend for internet hook up and your cell phone bill, this is not very expensive. You have to look at it in a long term perspective. People are shopping online more and more. They are looking for your business online. If you have a presentable, well functioning site, these start up costs are totally worth it. 4. Quantity is a lie. Most web hosting companies tell you they will give you 50,000GB of bandwidth and 500GB of Disk Space/month for a $30 web hosting package. This is a lie. If you ever used that much gigs in a month, they will kick you off. They are simply trying to dazzle you with large numbers because they know the average person isn't going to use that much anyway. Most small companies are lucky to even use 5GB of bandwidth per month and 1GB of disk space/month. Don't pay for what you are not using (or even getting in this case). 5. Use people! People love to see people on a website. It makes a customer feel like they can associate with the site because there is a face there. Psychology i guess. Have your web designer use people on your site. It helps, believe me. Good luck! |
