Ask for these basic facts:

• Department
• Major duties and responsibilities
• Number of people supervised
• Length of time in present career
• Length of time in current position

But the greatest training would be train them to be initiative. Some people even if they already have experience and has a lot of knowledge still can't be reliable without initiative.
