What do you want outsource.
There are some essential business works like accounting and telecommunications services that you could outsource to consultancies, because they are both essential products but not part of your key business. But you need to be careful about outsourcing key parts of your business (ie: what you are good at) because you don't want to ruin your reputation at a possibly important growth stage, and you want to make sure your customer gets the best experience. But once you get to a certain size, it may become necessary, as long as you are going with a reputable company. For example, one of the businesses I am involved with in Australia is a telecommunications consultancy. We all make good money through existing companies and referrals from our existing clients, but we want to look at expansion. All the higher up people in the company do not want to spend time doing the groundwork getting to the decision maker (but we do know that we can close when we get to the decision maker.) Instead of taking the risk of expanding our own business with new staff, we are in the process of negotiating with an experienced lead generation company who have experience approaching companies of the size we are now dealing with. It works out more cost effective for us but we know that the company we are dealing with is reputable so it doesn't harm our company's reputation.

I'd concentrate on one thing and try and find a niche. Don't try and be all things to everyone.
I'd also spend as much time forming and wording SLAs (Service Level Agreements) as I did on the actual business plan. Good Luck with your venture

Its tough being an outsourcer.. [I work for ACS Inc]. If you have a choice of clients... [hey, maybe
] Go for the ones that are the most flexible. Our main project is for Verizon Wireless... and they are very picky and sensitive to everything. Good luck! |
