Branding is creating a memorable market presence, building mindshare, logos, all that kind of activity.
Marketing is every thing you do to persuade people to convince themselves that they need to give you every last cent of their hard-earned money. A comprehesive marketing plan finds these people and sets them up so they're helpless when your sales team goes in for the kill. Happy hunting!

Marketing is generated by the company and would be all the activities that take place between your company and the consumer that ultimately results in the consumer making a choice to purchase or not. This could include things like advertising, product placement, press releases, charity sponsorhsips, sales staff, etc.
Branding has to do more with how your company is perceived in the consumer's mind. This can include your logo and corporate color pallette to the inner workings of your corporate culture. How your staff feel about their job can all be part of brand development, because employees who praise or bitch about their jobs to others are creating a kind of opinion about that company to the outside world. One could argue that the two overlap in certain areas. However, I personally believe the two are distinct from one another. Marketing is a set of actions where as branding has more to do with the emotions of the consumer. |
