I’m 22 and at the end of February I managed to dislocate my hip which resulted in me being in hospital for 4 days and bed bound for a further month or so. Not great when you've just started up your own company, but I decided to try and turn this set back into something useful

Whilst bed bound I came up with an advertising idea which is a little bit random but if it works would be awesome. I have had some coverage in the local press two examples which are online are:

Essex Chronicle-

The basic idea is that for a small fee of $10 (roughly £5) you can get maximum exposure for your company. If this is successful not only will the site (and thus you) get local/national coverage but the intention is for it to reach a global audience, hence selling the banners in dollars. Each entrant submits a basic banner advertising their company which gives them a link on my Company List page but most importantly it enters you into two things:

The Daily Ad – The winner of which has their advert plastered all over my site for 1 day (therefore everyone visiting the site can see it on the top and bottom of every page of the site).

The One Big Ad – The winner of which wins up to $250,000 to spend on advertising their company (basically its 25% of the sites turnover).

You can view the site at www.theonebigad.com which will give you a better idea of how it works and see my blog and ‘frequently asked questions’ etc. Basically it’s a pretty simple idea which catches people’s and importantly the media’s attention; if it works the potential for investing just £5 is huge for your company.

I’m currently in the process of generating more local press attention and sending out press releases and contacting some of the larger papers with the hope that I can reach a wider audience. This in turn relates to more hits for the current advertisers. Unique site hits are increasing significantly every day as more people are talking about the site and visiting it.

Great if you've got a business that sells all over the world but not too good for the local plumber!

Thank very much everyone, I greatly appreciate your comments and your support. Things are going well I have sold 20 banners now so thats $200 bucks which seems pretty good at such an early stage. I'm also getting a lot of positve feedback from people (with the exception of 1 or 2 who think I'm not 22 and haven't dislocated my hip despite press coverage etc!!) what I'm really pleased about is the mix of companies it seems to be quite diverse and hopefully as the word continues to spread more and more people will hear about it!
