Unless you have a product for general use like water, there's no use for JUST radio advertising, especialy if you're dealing with a restricted budget I think you should choose personalised channels of communications, for example if you're selling gum, I would invest money in enough baloons to make everybody look up ... instead of radio. But if you decide for an integrated campaign that already covers all the media channels, it's good to include radio also.

Things to think about before buying radio ads (For any business):
- What is the purpose of buying these radio spots? A good plan always has a purpose/goals/objectives. - What is it you are offerings (products/services)? - Target Market - Who are you communicating to?, What station do they listen to? Demographics, etc. - Your Message, look at your target market again. - Frequency, Frequency, Frequency. One radio spot won't work! Remember, the more spots you have, the better exposure and message repetition you get. - YOUR Budget! Yes, radio can be cheap/affordable. But be careful, pay attention to your budget, and it is always good to do a ROI (Return on Investment) calculation.

Radio advertising's effectiveness also depends on the credibility of the network. The station must be a source of good and credible information always. Thus, making them influential to their listeners and your target market.

Radio advertising certainly has its place within a comprehensive plan to reach your market.
Radio, I have found, works best for spontaneous purchases, drive through food places, and other low-cost investments. I am not usre how many people would buy a house, for example, becuase they heard it on the radio, but picking up a pizza on the way home from work wouldn't be such a 'big deal'. Find out why and when your market make their decisions and be in front of them then. Having a website to support your effors may help you out too. Fiona Fell
