Ways to Promote a Directory

Hey there,

I have recently launched a General Directory. I was wondering that what are the ways by which one can promote his or her web directory. Since it was a new directory i had launched a FREE regular link campaign on a forum and i got more than 250 links from the same.

Now keeping it free for more days was not feasible. So i made it a paid directory with free reciprocal link.

Now the question is that how to get people to buy links on your directory. I think having a high PR attracts people to submit. But then how do you get a high PR for a general directory?

add it in directory of directories
also add in other website directories
spread a word in forums
spread in blogs
promote in your directory in own network websites
take reviews from various communities
advertise with ppc networks , advertise in top webmaster sites

tell all your friends who are web masters

banner advertising, avatar advertising in forums would help some branding to the directory.

All of the above, but don't forget article marketing as an option as well.

submit to other directories. Most important submit to http://www.directorycritic.com/ and other similiar sites..

all the best.. concentrate on PR for the directory.. also keep the directory spam free and no porn!!! trust me if your site is free from them you will see people buying featured links there..

thanks all for your replies... well the directory in question in here is 36Towns.com...

Well as you can see i have already started Avtar Publicity... also have started sending email er to my friends...started promoting it in forums .. mainly webmaster forums... also submitted it to directories...

now after the PR update the current stats for the directory stands link this

so now being a PR3 paid directory (free reciprocal link) how can i promote it moew.. as to get nice Alexa rank and back link count...

for paid directory you will have to invest initially
or make it cheap $1 or something per listing, also buy links from high pr websites, related to webmasters

Get listed in http://www.directorycritic.com/, http://www.addurl.nu/, http://info.vilesilencer.com/ & your directory will receive atleast 200 uniques everyday
