Default Reverse Business Discrimination

Reverse Descrimination: Affirmative Action

The intended purpose of Affirmative Action was to recognize and
accommodate the social and employment rights of the minority.
This was to counteract any complaints or charges of
discrimination. Hiring minorities based on Affirmative Action
was, and still is, somewhat along the lines of tokenism, that
which allows a company to claim, "Hey, look! We're not
prejudice. We have many women, blacks and other minorities
working for us." The ironic twist of this, however, is that
Affirmative Action wound up causing further descrimination, but
in the opposite direction.

This twist elaborates on the fact that Affirmative Action
supports women and other minority groups based on the fact that
they are minority groups, not necessarily because they are
worthy of consideration, as in the case of a job prospect.

The examples below illustrate how Affirmative Action has worked.
These examples are fictitious, but they are realistic and occur
every single day.

* Nancy, an African American senior citizen of 75, is living an
uneventful life. She decides to look for full-time word so that
she could get out of the house and make some extra money. She
applies for a position as a cashier at a grocery store. She has
no experience but finds it as something new. Also applying is
Gloria, a white woman of 50 who has lots of experience and
looking for another cashier job to supplement her income as
well. As it turns out, Nancy gets the position over Gloria, but
only because she is both an African American and a senior
citizen, yet another minority group. Gloria should have gotten
the job because she was more qualified than Nancy.

* Miguel Sanchez, a Mexican immigrant in his forties who uses a
walker applies for a work as a dishwasher at a restaurant. Other
experienced people (male and female caucasians) apply as well.
Miguel is chosen for the position for three reasons: (1) he's
older, (2) he's handicapped and (3) he's an immigrant. This is
an unfair choice for the job; the younger and more experienced
are not only more qualified, they are also more physically
capable. This example serves as discrimination against the
younger and for the minority. As honorable as this might seem to
be, it is unjust and even unconstitutional because it violates
the rights of those who deserve the job.

* Ahmad, a Muslim with so-so grades from an unknown university,
and Sydney, a caucasian who has just graduated at the top his
class with a B.S. degree, are both 25 years old and applying for
a graduate program at another university. Only one can be
chosen, and, of course, Ahmad is the selection, but only because
he is Arabic. This has nothing whatsoever to do with
qualifications and credentials, but of heritage. The politics of
the university dictate that a certain number of minorities must
be selected to meet a yearly quota.

All three of these are cases based on choices in favor of
gender, physical handicap or ethnicity rather than the skills
and particular qualifications. No matter how one looks at it,
regardless of the advantages provided for the underdog, this is
reverse descrimination.

I see your point, qualifications and skills are mostly set aside to benefit certain individuals(though some are unqualified) who has the resources and/or to some/most circumstances favors are implemented. I too have witnessed a lot of these similar situations. Though rules and regulations have been made to prevent these kinds of discrimination, it is still rendered useless for these rule's aims and main thought is still not recognized and respected. Come to think of it, maybe I could be one of these offenders if I was in their situations. What I mean is that I might unknowingly be in favor of my culture or affected by my pity just like in the first situation, rather than to justify what should be proper.

term referring to the practice of excluding a classification or race of people who have not been historically discriminated against, usually whites, from positions that are made available exclusively to persons or groups that have traditionally been the subject of discrimination, or who otherwise benefit from affirmative action programs. The term has been applied to the practice of reserving positions for minorities in school admissions programs, corporate promotions, and rehiring of blacks with less job seniority than whites. The contention that affirmative action violates the equal protection clause of the Fourteenth Amendment and Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, 42 U.S.C. §§2000d et seq., has been the cause of differing opinions by members of the Supreme Court

How much of it do you understand? Well, my point is that even though rules and regulations have been made... Certain violators couldn't be apprehended for most common individuals either lack the courage or lack the knowledge of their rights that may be caused by unavailability to go to school.
