Default importance of good presentation in business

Presentation is very important to ensure that customer is convinced with product or service you are offering.

Few things which are really required for a good presentation
  • Visual information that will help the audience understand your presentation.
  • Include charts, graphs, slides, handouts, etc.
  • A soft copy to give to the client for further reference of entire presentation.

anything more please add.

A good presentation with complete details helps, but also questions after the presentation are very important.

Dont just read your slides out.... have seen far too many people do that even at large value pitches

Know your client.... have again received presentations saying that the market position is X and therefore these are our key challenges when we are actually very different from the market and this fact was well known

Dont be afraid to say you dont know the answer but will come back... much better than trying to bluff and either being caught out or committing yourself into something you cant deliverer

Dont go too far off the wall... one company turned up with massive posters rather than slides which was a major problem as our walls were covered in art works and specialist paint finish so not really wanting blue tack or cellotape on it... and it only got worse when they got the specially printed balloons out and tried to blow them up whilst pitching a £50m IT system.

Before preparing any presentation always have clear idea about your target audience, this will help you a lot in how to keep the interest of audience through out the presentation.

@Poonam
"Home work" << is the key word again, right ?

Well there are 3 different types of Presentations.

A) Business / Corporate
B) Management
C) Internal (Team)

A) Business / Corporate
Would second on Poonam's view, however I would like to add something to it, Have EYE to EYE contact with the Audience.

B) Management
While presentation, 60 % is all you need to speak and shoot question to the audience, to keep them on the same page.

C) Internal (Team)
In Internal Team presentation, its just a general discussion and completing your home work to move on to the next level.

Regards,
Naresh K.

I absolutely agree to you abt establishing eye contact ...... eye contact is very imp in presentation .... Its also imp in other communications like when you talk to your employer, friend, colleague, any one..... Except in some cases (grandparents, parents & elder as per our Indian culture if you believe in it). Its imp in interview too….

Having eye contact shows that what ever you are saying you are confident about it and its best true to as per your knowledge..........

Most of the people while in presentation, are a bit tensed while makin an Eye contact, best way to avoid this situation is to look at people who are not looking at you, which gives you more confidence while talking and you finish the presentation in a smooth flow.
