I usually dont take advance but take security cheque's for my consultancy and "%" on every billing.

well its depend on clients ..if a client have good repo..in past.. i take 50 to 80% or sometime i wont say anything ..i give them work n take whole payment.

I take payments like - half advance and half after the work(pdc for that) and never faced any problem except couple of times.
