Education is already a big business here in China.

I've overheard someone talking about Ivy League Universities are going to take out the tuition in recent future...however, the catch is that the entrance will be granted only to the "gifted" : ))...don't have a clue if this is true...
On the other hand, in central/east European countries where the private colleges/universities have a pretty good reputation, hell yeah, it is a good business...people are making fortune out of it!

Hi Poonam,
You are absolutely right. Education has been so commercialized nowadays. I recall when I was doing my degree in the UK, long time ago. The admission criteria was pretty high for state universities. For post graduate, they would normally required first class or 2nd class upper. Nowadays, many similar universities which have outsourced their marketing to private companies have lowered the admission criteria by a lot. Example, many masters programs only need a diploma or a basic degree to enter. Some don't even bother, so long that you can pay the fees. I once asked the colleges about this and those that have an answer, said they have changed the policy to allow everyone a chance to study. But then how do you upkeep the university standards I asked? Well, we qualify them by only passing those that qualify through the overall course. We do not stop them at admission. For me, I think this is a very lousy excuse and an unethical way of making money. Just my two cents. KSLye kslye.blogspot.com |
