Many successful businesses started in somebodies back bedroom. It is the idea you need not the office space. However, most of these earn £1000s per week from home opportunities seem to be a con to try and sell you information or a product. All you need is a good idea and the knowledge, skill and determination to see it through.

Yes, home based businesses can make money and I do know people who make a living without a physical office. But home-based business covers such a wide variety of businesses, that any generalizations are not very meaningful.

There are many successful home-based businesses. Some are self-created businesses that really function as a typical business, with employees and everything. An example might be a painting business or an installer of gutters and gutter covers. They probably have employees and a truck or two, but run the business from their home and phone.

Other home-based businesses are single person businesses that perhaps don't require a physical presence. A free-lance writer, a web-designer, a wedding planner - all of these could be run out of the home.

Although it is uncommon in the United States today, many other types of business were run out of homes in the past. My aunt was a beautician and had her shop in her basement, with a direct entry from the driveway. My dentist also had his office and reception room in his home. In fact, the house I live in today was built by a physician who had hid office and examining rooms on one end of the house. I suspect you will find very few dentist offices in homes these days.

There are many ways to get started in a home-based business. There are low-cost franchises or dealerships for those who want to be part of a "system" and there is always the choice to start from scratch.
