Has anybody used video marketing as a vehicle for marketing? I am in the midst of creating my first online video. I do not want to spend money on this, so I downloaded some freeware called CamStudio. It is very simple to use and the quality of the video is not bad. It's not the best, but hey it's free.
I created a standard account with YouTube, which means that the file cannot be longer than 100 Megs. The video also can't be longer than 10 minutes. If you want a larger video or a longer video, which requires a Director's account and I think this costs money. When you use CamStudio, it creates the video in .avi format, which means that you will need to compress it. There are a number of ways to compress the video. Microsoft Movie Maker is one tool that can be used as well as others. Uploading the video is very easy. Once it is uploaded, you are good to go. If your movie is longer or you have multiple videos to upload, this means that you have one of YouTube's paid accounts. You can use YouTube's Uploader software which is free and easy to install. But, one thing is if you use the Uploader, be sure that you setup your firewall so that it will allow the Uploader to be updated. It will be blocked by your firewall. I ran into this problem, but was able to quickly fix it, I have Norton, and afterwards, the install of Uploader went smooth. Just some helpful hints and suggestions for those who want to create a video to help market their business, service, or product. |

We're just adding the beta version of video profiles to our business networking website (link in sig) at the moment, and one of the ways you can add it is using the embed code from a YouTube video. Now the reason I'm mentioning this is that we're planning on rolling that out across different sections of the site over the next few months, which means if you post up your own product video on YouTube you can then embed it in our site for viewers to watch. And now to the point...overall video is becoming much more important these days. It is much more impressive to watch a video than to see a pdf. With server and end-user bandwidth allowances increasing, and wider adoption of high-bandwidth internet connections, video will become more prevalent. Joost is one possible future on the consumer side. One very interesting article I read in the Aug 2007 of the UK's Web Designer mag spells out quite categorically that if you're going to send out video product demos to people it's better to distribute through the net than via a DVD through the post. So to answer your question - yes, we are using video as a promotional vehicle, are enabling others to do the same, and are aiming to use it much more in the future. I've used camtasia in the past to create a small help video for the site, and that went down very well. Used properly, and promotional videos are a great example of this, video can be an excellent tool in getting your message across.

We are not doing this at the moment but we will be considering it as a tool in the near future. Thanks for the info.

Yes, I just got a copy of camtasia and I will be putting it to use soon. Since I have started marketing on the net a little over 3 months ago, I had started noticing that more people were using podcasting and online videos as a means of promoting their products and/or services. So, this prompted me to do the same. Ever since I started this, many of my business associates have started to get on the bandwagon of creating online videos.

Yes, I just found that out. One of my partners discovered that my video was already on the first page of the search engine results. I thought this was cool because I just put it out there a little over a week ago.
I am going to make another one today. |
