When I first embarked into the world of business owner, I never realized the importance of having tools to run your business. Since I started my business, I use my computer more than any other tool in my office. I also use a printer to print out important documents to send to my prospects and customers. Another item that is of great importance is my phone, which I use to keep in contact with my prospects and customers. I use business cards, postcards and letter heads for my business. Because I am on a tight budget, I have software that I use to create these items. You can have this done at a business store or some other service, but for now, I choose to create my own, because I find that I enjoy creating something. Other tools in my office are my filing cabinets, my boards for placing important notes, my wall calendar to keep up with important dates. Along with all of this, I have the usual, a stapler, pads of paper for my printer, envelopes, scissors, and the list goes on. I operate out of a bedroom in my apartment and one would be surprised because it looks just like an office; and a sometimes messy one at that. I am serious about my business so I treat my business like it should be treated, as a business of course, not a hobby. My advice to those who are just starting a business is to list some of the tools you think you will need to help run your business. Do your research too because you don't want to go spending money on items that you may be able to get cheaper elsewhere. Once you have established your office, get to work. Get on the phone and make those phone calls, send and return the emails, mail your letters to your customers and prospects. At first you may feel like you have no clue (I know I did), but in time, with repetition, running a business becomes old hat; and you will be well on your way to becoming the business person you have always read about but never thought it would be you. Now, if only I can get my fax to work!
