A recent “Initial Quality Survey”, conducted by JD Power has given a shot in the arm to the Indian auto industry. The survey has revealed improvement in over all quality standard’s across manufacturers over the past decade.
The study measures new-vehicle quality in the first two to six months of owenership based on 135 problem symptoms. Over all performance is summarized by problems experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100), with lower scores reflecting better quality performance. The 2006 India initial quality study was based on evaluations from more than 5,000 new – vehicle owners for 37 different models representing 11 manufacturers. The survey also pointed out that excessive fuel consumption remains a problem. It has been pointed out that most dealers tend to quote higher mileage figures to customers who are later put off.
