Some directories have "bad Google reputation". Most directories approve your link for 1week - 6months, and it takes the crawlers another month or so to index that link... so the question is: "Does it worth it?"
Definitely. There are many directories with a high PR, that have a wide variety of categories with many sites and their description, inside. These descriptions of similar sites give you the relevant keywords you need to give your link a high "importance".
